A 20ft crocodile that ate a pregnant woman has been killed by the woman's fisherman husband who swore to avenge his wife's death at all cost.

Villagers of Nawaikoke in Uganda became worried when Demeteriya Nabwire, who went to search for firewood had not returned after several hours.

At once, a search team was dispatched to find her but they were in shock when they found the pregnant woman's slippers, bloody toes, fingers and a mobile phone at the spot were she went to search for firewood.

They soon realized she had been eaten by a giant sea creature surfacing from the river - the same 1,000kg creature that had eaten six women and children in the past year.

So furious and devastated, her husband Mubarak Batambuze of Kibuye village, went to a local blacksmith and demanded for the sharpest spear possible which he happily spent his life savings on.

Speaking to Uganda's daily newspaper, Batambuze said:

"I went to a blacksmith and paid him sh20,000 (£4.65) so that he could make me a very sharp spear."

He descended to the riverbank and located the 20ft beast where his wife's remains were found last Sunday.

After a bloody battle, the 56-year-old took his revenge and dragged the creature up the river-shore with the help of five other fishermen who were amazed.

The villagers now hail Batambuze a hero for slaughtering the deadly crocodile which terrorized their village for over a year. Heroic.
