EXCLUSIVE: "I'm Coming With Something Unique & Different" — Malcoholic Obinna

I'm sure you've all heard about 'that young and handsome guy' who is about to take the Nigerian music industry by storm.

Malcolm Obinna, Malcoholic Obinna

Pictured above is Malcolm 'Malcoholic' Obinna, the P-Square's cousin who Peter Okoye recently introduced as the first signing under his P-Classic Record label.

In an Exclusive interview with JamPlace, Malcoholic talked about the meaning of his name, his type of music and what we should expect from him very soon.

Read below..

So, your name 'Malcoholic', how did you come about it?
"Hehe, that's a funny story but let me not talk too much about it because my artiste name is no longer Malcoholic. We are sticking to Malcolm but the origin of Malcoholic is that my name is Malcolm and either you're an alcoholic (addict to alcohol), a workaholic (work addict) or you're a Malcoholic (addict to me and my music). So, that's the short version."
What type of music do you do?
"I'm an afro-beat musician but I've started mixing it up with European house music/EDM, so the new sound you'll hear from me is definitely going to be something different."
Your cousin Peter (of P-square) recently introduced you saying you're 'getting ready to hit the industry really hard!', what should we expect from you?
"The very best. As long as everyone knows who my cousins are, I have no choice than giving you guys the very best.

I've seen ladies tripping for your 'handsome' look, how are you handling that coupled with your project at hand?
"How I am handling the ladies or my look?"
The ladies and your project. Are they distracting you?
"The ladies are no problem because they are not disturbing me at all. Sure, I'm busy blushing when I read the comments but it's not about my looks, it's about my content, what I have to give and not what they see. It's not that I don't want people to be looking at me but I prefer them looking at me because of my music they have been hearing or dancing to and not because of them thinking I'm handsome, etc.
"So I can say it like this.. the comments the women write all over are giving me a kind of motivation to prove to them that I'm not only good looking but I also do good music."
Have you done any song(s) with any Nigerian artist(s)?
"Yeah, sure. I've done a song with Flavour N'abania titled Oyinbo. I did another one with Adaz (Zarokome crooner) and I was also on J-Martin's last album, Sellah. The track was titled Selense.
"At the moment, I'm doing a lot of projects with different artists.. Surely, one to look up to is the colabo with Capital Femi on his new album coming out soon."
When should we expect your much hyped new single?
"Beginning of the next year. Can't give you the exact date yet but I will keep you guys posted."
Finally, How does it feel like being the first artist signed under Peter Okoye's "P-Classic Records?"
"I'm first of all very honored and excited. It's a very special year for me. The signing just ended my year perfectly and also showed me that all the hard work wasn't for nothing. I will keep up the hard work because I have not gotten there yet.. where I want to be. This is just the beginning.
About the upcoming 2015 elections, Malcoholic has advised the Nigerian citizens to "just vote" and don't "fight."
