New, scary stories keeps emerging by the day and this one is about a woman who tried to eat her own baby shortly after giving birth to the child.

A nurse caught 24-year-old Li Zhenghua trying to eat her baby few days after she was born at a local hospital in China.

The shocked nurse saw her eating her baby's hands and attempted to rescue the infant but the carnnibal mother refused to let go.

The nurse quickly raised an alarm which alerted the rest of the hospital staff who then rushed in to rescue the crying baby.

According to reports by local media, the scary incident happened in the city of Shenzen in  China's Guangdong Province.

The heavily pregnant woman was found on the streets and in labour. She was then rushed to a hospital where she gave birth and attempted to eat the baby.

Speaking to Chinese media, a hospital spokesman said:

"It was really shocking, the arm was badly damaged and suffered not only heavy bruising but bleeding as a result of the bite. Fortunately, doctors managed to insert something to stop her closing her teeth and then levered her jaws apart. After that they gave her a sedative and took the baby to a secure location." 

Authorities said the woman's mother-in-law had thrown her out on the streets despite being pregnant after she started acting mental at home.

They say they are trying to find out why the new mum tried to eat her baby. The baby has since been taken into the care of the government.
