I'm beginning to feel ashamed of my once beloved country Nigeria, and it's sickening, corrupt and maggot-filled leaders.
FILE PHOTO: Soldiers accused of refusing to fight in the country's northeastern Islamic uprising appear before a court-martial in Abuja, Nigeria, Oct. 15, 2014. |
Why on earth will the Military sentence 54 soldiers to 'death' all in the name of 'Military code of conduct.'
Yes, no one supports what these soldiers did but it's clearly underlined that they reacted based on the insufficient weapons they were given to fight Boko Haram.
The context here is that giving them insufficient weapons to fight a well-equipped terrorist group which ranked 'World's Deadliest Terrorist Group' as at May this year, is clearly a suicide mission – sending them out to be slaughtered like lambs.
After they reacted, the most appropriate punishment on the table happens to be sentencing them to death. So barbaric!
I know I'm not a military personnel and have basically no idea what they do there but any civilian seeing the heading "Nigerian Military Sentences 54 Soldiers To Death By Firing For Mutiny" will be shocked.
Wars to defeat Boko Haram has been very fruitless and seems likely unstoppable in the nearest future.
We have a handful of soldiers, instead of uniting the few we have – mobilizing them adequately to fight insurgency – we are killing them for some flimsy reasons.
What's the essence of demonstrating such military power if they can't use it to defeat insurgency?
It's true that 'a captain cannot allow pirates take over his ship' but please, justice should be tampered with mercy.
I'm calling on the concerned bodies to revert their decision of killing these young men who willingly purchased military forms with the aim to defend Nigeria but never knew the same country would send them to their early graves.
It gets more touching when you realize that one of the soldier's wife just gave birth to a beautiful set of twins. One is the only son to his mother while another is supposed to get married in the new year.
It's time for Goodluck Jonathan to use his power as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to prevent this massacre.
Which way Nigeria?
Please, if you have read this article, I wrote it for the sole purpose of getting it to the concerned bodies so that something can be done.
Help me achieve this by sharing this article on your social media. Together we can do it. Thank you.
