Video: Footballer Critically Hospitalized After Being Struck By Lightening During Match

This is one of those very strange incidents to have ever happened during a football match as a Peruvian footballer, Joao Contreras, was hit by an electrical discharge from the sky while they waited for the second half of their match to kick off.

The shocking incident occurred during the semi-final game between Contreras's team, Sport Aguila and Fuerza Minera in Peru.

Despite initial reports claiming Contreras had died, South American news outlets are now saying that the player is alive but his condition in the hospital is very serious.

A linesman was also hit by the lightening bolt, although he was lucky with minor injuries which medics had taken care of.

The Copa Peru match was suspended following the incident with the score tied at 1-1.
